There are sometimes other funding streams available for postdoctoral fellow (e.g. via the Lady Davis Trust), and there may be an option of funded PhD/MSc studentships from time to time. A good fit between your background and the area of nonlinear waves, water waves, or theoretical fluid mechanics is crucial.
